How the Program Works

The United Way of Williams County makes the program accessible to all preschool children in the county, regardless of income. The United Way pays for the books and mailing, promotes the program, registers the children, and enters the information into the database. From there The Dollywood Foundation takes over and manages the system to deliver the books to the home.

Once enrolled, each child’s first book will be the classic “The Little Engine That Could.” Each child will continue to receive one hardcover, age-appropriate book free each month until he or she reaches the age of five. There is no need to re-enroll in the program each year, but we do ask that you provide the United Way with any address changes, as books will not be forwarded. You may change your address online.

The cost of the program is $30 per year per child. United Way will underwrite the cost of the program with donations from individuals and companies, but we ask if you can afford the cost of the program that you please sponsor your own child or grandchild.

Children ages 0-5 may be enrolled by contacting the United Way at 419-636-8603 or filling out the online enrollment form.
